Thinking of adding an eco-friendly addition to your Richmond, Virginia home? Theta Homes is an experienced green home builder and home additions contractor that designs and builds additions of all types. Whether you are looking to add a family room, expand the kitchen or create a master suite, adding an addition to your home is a great way to add additional living space and increase the value of your home.

Building an Addition to a House

Building an addition starts with us visiting with you to understand what you want to accomplish and to measure the area where you want the addition to be built. Before we start on the design of your addition, we need to determine whether an addition can actually be built. While on the surface it may appear you have enough room, there are zoning requirements, setbacks and easements that may limit what can be built and where.  As well, there may be covenants or other restrictions that dictate what the new structure must look like and the types of materials that must be used.

Assuming there is nothing preventing the construction of an addition, the next step is to design the addition. Based on our conversations we will draw the design for your home addition and discuss the types of finishes you want.  Once you approve the designs we will work-up the cost and present our price quote.  While we could give you a ball-park estimate, we want to be as accurate as possible knowing all the materials and finishes that will be used prior to pricing so that we don’t have to come back and ask for more money later on.  Our customers appreciate that about us.

When you hire us to build your home addition, we take care of all of the details. From pulling permits to ordering product, to the final clean up and everything in between, no detail is overlooked.  Your satisfaction with your home addition and the work that went into it is our number one priority.

Master Suite Additions

When you just love where you live but want the amenities of a master suite as found in newer homes, a master suite addition is a nice compromise.  Today’s master suites are spacious and include a five-piece master bathroom with soaking tub, stand alone shower, water closet and double-sinks.  You may want some or all of these.  Luxury master suites can also include a fireplace or sitting area.  Whatever your desire we can design and implement a master suite that will delight even the most discerning homeowner.

In-Home Office or Work Room Additions

Changed forever by the pandemic many people find themselves working from home right along side their children who are remote learning.  Even before the pandemic hit, many companies were making the change to telecommuting a few days a week or completely.  According to a report by the National Association of Home Builders, 65% of home buyers are looking for homes with an in-home office.  If you are limited on space, adding an in-home office or work room addition is a great idea and a good investment.

Sunroom Additions

A four-season sunroom addition with plenty of windows and access to your yard is a great way to bring the outdoors inside. You can enjoy the sunlight year-round but keep the mosquitos where they belong—outside.  According to Home Advisor, the addition of a sunroom will increase the value of your home, and you are likely to recoup 50% of the cost when it comes time to sell. Four-season sunrooms have a multitude of uses. People use them as family rooms, additional kitchen or dining space, garden rooms and more.

Family Room Additions

The homes of yesteryear didn’t necessarily provide for large family gatherings around the television on Super Bowl Sunday.  If space for family and friends is what you are looking for, a family room addition makes sense.  Whether you want the focal point of the room to be that 135” flat screen TV or a floor to ceiling fireplace, Theta Homes will bring your ideas to life.  There are so many options for family room additions from the type and number of windows, to the type of ceiling (vaulted, tray, coffered, beamed, etc.), type of doors and access to the yard. Or, maybe you want a pass through to the kitchen.  So many choices… but we’ll help you make them all.
